One of the core assignments of NID is to conduct third-line investigations of ID, travel and documentation in immigration cases and other cases related to identity complaints on behalf of various external contracting authorities, including police districts, UDI, UNE, NAV and The County Governor. NID operates the largest document laboratory in Norway within the mentioned case categories and processes a large number of documents that shall be authenticity assessed at third line level. Through assistance and advice, NID shall strengthen the work of clarifying the identities of foreigners who come to, or stay in Norway.
