2.1 Procedure

Titel : Market dialogue concerning the use of the consequential LCA approach (C-LCA) in relation to climate footprints of food products
Beskrivelse : The Danish Veterinary and Food Administration would like to investigate the applicability of the consequential LCA approach (C-LCA) in relation to climate footprint calculations of food products, both generic footprints and footprints for specific products. Hence, we would like to invite all market actors to share their information about existing C-LCA methods and databases on food items, potential market operators for reviewing and adjusting existing C-LCA climate footprint methods for food items as well as a discussion on possibilities and hinderances for developing a method for conducting product specific climate footprints for food items based on the C-LCA approach. The marked dialogue could potentially result in a tender in 2025 of the Danish Veterinary and Food Administration regarding reviewing, adjusting and/or developing a C-LCA method, that eventually can be used for calculating climate footprints for a climate label. The Danish Veterinary and Food Administration would appreciate written dialogue or virtual meetings with interested parties in the weeks 45 and 46. In the request for participation, kindly include a brief introduction to your company/business and a short statement of your interest in this project. Kindly send your request for participation to Jamila Andersen at jaman@fvst.dk . Questions we would like discuss in the dialogue. • Do you know of organizations / actors that would be interested and have the competencies to conduct a review and possible adjustment of existing methods for calculating generic climate footprints for food and beverages based on consequential life cycle analysis approach (C-LCA)? Which could these be? • Which existing generic C-LCA methods should be included in the review? • What possibilities and hindrances do you think there are for developing a method for calculating a climate foot print for specific food items, based on C-LCA? We look forward to receiving your feedback.
